How dumb have we become?

Comments:
Unfortunately, what we have here are examples of "progress".
I'm glad I won't be around in another 40 years, but I feel sorry for my kids and what they are facing in the future.
I'll second that one Rcbbuckeye!!!! I lived through many of the first scenarios ... gasp!

" ......The school gets extra money from the state because Jeffrey has a disability."

Soooooo that's why teachers (unions) push learning disorders so much??? Follow the money trail.
Then: Suzie gets raped by her boss. Suzie doesn't press charges, because the cops say she probably deserved it for wearing a tight skirt to work.

Then: Yvette Cade begs judge to help her because her husband is violent. Judge lifts restraining order & tells her to stop whining & get marriage counseling. Three weeks later Yvette is doused with gasoline and set on fire by her estranged husband.

Then: Young boy grows up in a normal environment. Joins the military. Everyone says he is a fine young man. He has dreams of being a commando. Nobody pays attention to his strange behavior. Blows up Federal Building in Oklahoma killing 168 people including babies in a daycare center.

Then: A man is stopped by police for a traffic violation. Police don't investigate or search his car.   Later, after more murders, it is discovered he had body parts in the car that night.

Then: A little girl is kidnapped. Police question John Couey, a sex offender, and leave his trailer. 9 yr old Jessica Lunsford was found raped & buried alive in a shallow grave. Couey tells detectives during his confession that little Jessica was alive in his closet when investigators came to the door.

Teachers don't go to prison for helping kids with scraped knees. However, there are numerous sexual predators out there who, by the time they're caught, have ruined the lives of hundreds of children. By paying attention to our children & teaching them age appropriate sex education, maybe we can stop these maggots.

If we stop worrying about the rights of criminals so much, maybe we'll catch more of them! However, I have no idea where we're gonna put them, since we let more out to make room for the new convicts.

Konane - I know too many people who had disabilities and learning disorders who were overlooked back in the 50s and 60s. My friend had epilepsy was was an outcast and sent home. Even in the 80s, my sister had to fight the schools because her daughter had a severe case of dyslexia and it wasn't always recognized. The teachers were often cruel. She was very smart, but couldn't see or read things the way a "normal" student does. She is now happily married with children and has a Masters Degree in Audiology & Speech Therapy & helps adults & children with Special Needs.

Gosh - and I edited out a couple of examples..all true. By the way, this person was Jeffrey Dahmer. Shows what happens when the police let a suspicious person go without further questioning.

A man is stopped by police for a traffic violation. Police don't investigate or search his car.   Later, after more murders, it is discovered he had body parts in the car that night.

I'm surprised you are posting anything negative about Homeland Security and the war on terror, since some of our personal rights were taken away by the Bush administration.
Are we looking at the same post? Density = mass/volume

Are you saying I'm dense?
Legislators and tort lawyers have bound and gagged our use of common sense to the extent none of us who has a working knowledge of it knows whether to **** or go blind. At least that's my interpretation of Jarasan's blog entry.
Konane, I did read Jarasan's blog correctly. Maybe I'm being misunderstood. I have always said that our convoluted legal system has gotten so confusing that even the police don't know how to respond properly. Still, I read a lot about then & now, and I think now is a lot better than then in many instances. As a victim of violence, I feel we have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go.
The scenarios depict the difference btwn. the way people reacted in 1957 and they way they react NOW under 8 different scenarios. Clearly, the point is: that people NOW overreact to situations that were simply resolved by common sense, communication, and human to human contact up until the late fifties (1957). Clearly the outcomes of the resolutions in the fifties turned out a lot better with a lot less effort.

The problem today is exemplified by the response our colleague JustExploring gave, over the top Jeff Dahmer rape and pillage Homeland security dysfunctional people talking about lawyer legal crap etc.

All this PC, overlegislated, contentious society is a far cry from how simple life used to be.

The deterioration of common sense and congeniality between humans is a direct result of liberalism, too many lawyers, too many useless laws, too many special interest groups and most of all: too many people with too much friggen time on their hands thinking the world revolves around them.

Yes, we have become idiots. The non-use of common sense has become frightening. When a teacher turns in a student for carrying Midol in her purse, what does that say about the education that teacher is providing?
