Would you have been OK?

You need to check into the CCX the Chicago Carbon Exchange look it up.

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had stated that there were 57 states in the United States , would you have said that he is clueless.

If George W. Bush would have flown all the way toDenmark to make a five minute speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door inTexas , would you have thought he was a self important, conceded, egotistical prick.
If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have approved.

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 10 months -- so you'll have three years and two months to come up with an answer.

The realm of possibility is much better than hitting a P4!

This is from a guy named DK Matai on the Huffington Post:  They ( the news outlets) aren't talking about it too much because if you don't it won't happen right?   Mother nature listens to no one.  You see........all the technology,  scientists,  vulcanologists, global warmers (coolers),  don't know jack what is going to happen.   All we can do is guess............ and I wish we could get paid for it!   Cause my guess is:  Katla will join the dance!

The eruptions of the comparatively small Eyjafjallajökull glacier volcano in Iceland have historically preceded massive eruptions by the more feared Mount Katla. Experts are concerned that the present volcanic eruption could trigger activity at Mount Katla, which is potentially much more dangerous. Its last major eruption was in 1918. Icelandic volcanologists consider it plausible that Katla may erupt, and that is why they are monitoring Katla very closely right now. There are eruption channels between Eyjafjallajökull and Katla and magma could shoot into the Katla volcano. Katla might only need a nudge. Effects of Katla's eruption would put the present air travel chaos in the shade, inflicting much greater economic losses upon Europe. Deposits from the ash cloud formed by Katla when it erupted spectacularly in 1755 can still be found in peat bogs in Shetland and other parts of northern Europe.

2010-04-17-ejafjalla16apr20105.jpg

Iceland is a volcanic hot spot on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which is the dividing line between the Eurasian and North American continental plates. The country's three major volcanoes -- Hekla, Katla and Grimsvotn -- lie along this boundary. Altogether there are 35 active volcanoes on and around the island. Icelandic settlement reaches back to the late 9th century AD, with three documented instances of an eruption in the Eyjafjallajökull volcano preceding an eruption in Katla, but 22 documented eruptions in the much more active Katla in the same period. This connection has not been lost by geologists observing the disaster. Icelandic history is rich of tales of the might of the much-feared Katla volcano.

Eyjafjallajökull, which is currently filling the sky above northern Europe with ash, is a minor player in Icelandic terms -- though its last eruption lasted for more than a year, from December 1821 to January 1823. It began erupting soon after midnight on March 20th this year and the first eruption lasted for three weeks. It erupted for a second time on Wednesday April 14th and the lava is now coming out ten times faster than the last eruption. This eruption has many of the same characteristics as the eruptions in the 19th century. Whether or not the eruptions go on for nearly a year as the past eruptions did, only time will tell:

1. Some experts suggest that the present eruption could soon start tapering off; yet
2. Some leading volcanologists have warned that eruptions from Icelandic volcanic activity could last for up to a year.

We can expect the volcanic ash already spewing out of Iceland to hang around in the skies for the next couple of weeks with many planes grounded across many European countries, but if Katla goes then it might last for months. Back in 1783 another volcano in Iceland caused thick fog across Europe and even spread as far as the US, for eight months!

Goose gander hypocrisy.

How soon we forget.  And Hillary is absolutely correct!

Here I go again, volcanoes, warming etc.

Iceland

As I go off again I'll make this one short,  "the human race is but a bunch of insignificant short timers on this planet,  mother nature is boss."

The volcano erupting right now in Iceland is stopping flights to and from anywhere on the upper Atlantic ocean ie. USA to EU.  and vice versa.   This could go on for months causing......... you guessed it "global cooling!"

The earthquakes occuring all over the place are just as significant,  deadly,  and hopefully in some sort of cycle that is on a down turn of frequency.

So this summer fire up the barbies and enjoy life whilst we can.

Going bananas

From an e-mail,  I don't know if all this is correct, but Buddie, Lil' buddie, and I love em'.

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about
>bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of
>bananas on the brain. Read on:
>>>Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!
>>>This is interesting
>>>After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.
>>>
>>>Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose
>>>combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial
>>>boost of energy.
>>>
>>>Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a
>>>strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit
>>>with the world's leading athletes.
>>>
>>>But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also
>>>help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and
>>>conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
>>>
>>>Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst
>>>people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a
>>>banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein
>>>that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve
>>>your mood and generally make you feel happier.
>>>
>>>PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
>>>regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
>>>
>>>Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin
>>>in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
>>>
>>>Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium
>>>yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so,
>>>the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry
>>>to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of
>>>blood pressure and stroke.
>>>
>>>
>>>Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school (England )
>>>were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast,
>>>break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown
>>>that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more
>>>alert.
>>>
>>>Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help
>>>restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
>>>resorting to laxatives.
>>>
>>>Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a
>>>banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and,
>>>with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while
>>>the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
>>>
>>>Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you
>>>suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
>>>
>>>Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood
>>>sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
>>>
>>>Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing
>>>the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it
>>>amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
>>>
>>>Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
>>>
>>>Overweightand at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria
>>>found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate
>>>and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most
>>>obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded
>>>that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood
>>>sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to
>>>keep levels steady.
>>>
>>>Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal
>>>disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw
>>>fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It
>>>also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the
>>>lining of the stomach.
>>>
>>>Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit
>>>that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant
>>>mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure
>>>their baby is born with a cool temperature.
>>>
>>>
>>>Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because
>>>they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
>>>
>>>Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up
>>>smoking. The B6 and B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and
>>>magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of
>>>nicotine withdrawal.
>>>
>>>Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the
>>>heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water
>>>balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing
>>>our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a
>>>high-potassium banana snack.
>>>
>>>Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine,
>>>eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by
>>>strokes by as much as 40%!
>>>
>>>Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill
>>>off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with
>>>the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or
>>>surgical tape!
>>>
>>>So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare
>>>it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate,
>>>three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice
>>>the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one
>>>of the best value foods around. So, maybe its time to change that
>>>well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"
>>>
>>>
>>>PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time!
>>>
>>>I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of
>>>the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth...
>>>Amazing fruit !!!

Polish plane crash.

The leaders of Poland go to Russia to commemorate the mass killing of polish officers by the Soviets during WW2.

The plane carrying the leaders of Poland including their president,  upon final approach to land the aircraft........ 'crashes' and kills everybody.

What on earth is going on here?  I have some very troublesome thoughts that come to mind immediately.  Tell me if you have the same thoughts.   I hope it ain't what I am thinking.

God bless the people of Poland.

Ant and the grasshopper redux.

Too many grasshoppers today we need ant pills!

THE ANT AND THE
GRASSHOPPER

This one is a little different...... Two Different Versions....
.............. Two Different Morals

OLD VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building
his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a
fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..

Come winter, the ant is warm
and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he
dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be
responsible for yourself!

MODERN
VERSION

The ant works hard
in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and
laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool
and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press
conference and demands to know why the ant should be
allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to
provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a
video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed
to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody
cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green....'

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house
where the news stations film the group singing, "We
shall overcome." Then Rev. Jeremiah
Wright has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's
sake.

President Obama condemns
the ant and blames
President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the
Pope for the grasshopper's plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten
rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both
call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make
him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity &
Anti-Ant Act retroactive to the beginning of
the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to
pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given
to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading
friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is
in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house,
crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't
maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found
dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over
by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous
and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE
STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

TJ's crystal ball.

From an e-mail don't need to Snope it it doesn't matter.

TJ

DID THOMAS JEFFERSON HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL? IT HAS BEEN said; the greatest volume of brainpower in one place occurred when Jefferson dined alone...
HOW DID JEFFERSON KNOW??????

Especially read the last quote from 1802.

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe,
We shall become as corrupt as Europe .
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those
Who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the
Government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered..'

'If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.'

Bush Deficit vs. Obama Deficit in Pictures

Posted March 24th, 2009 at 10:20am in Ongoing Priorities with 377 comments Print This Post

UPDATE: This graph is now over one year old. For up to date information see this post: Budget 2011: Past Deficits vs. Obama's Deficits in Pictures

President Barack Obama has repeatedly claimed that his budget would cut the deficit by half by the end of his term. But as Heritage analyst Brian Riedl has pointed out, given that Obama has already helped quadruple the deficit with his stimulus package, pledging to halve it by 2013 is hardly ambitious. The Washington Post has a great graphic which helps put President Obama's budget deficits in context of President Bush's.

What's driving Obama's unprecedented massive deficits? Spending. Riedl details:

President Bush expanded the federal budget by a historic $700 billion through 2008. President Obama would add another $1 trillion. President Bush began a string of expensive financial bailouts. President Obama is accelerating that course.President Bush created a Medicare drug entitlement that will cost an estimated $800 billion in its first decade. President Obama has proposed a $634 billion down payment on a new government health care fund.President Bush increased federal education spending 58 percent faster than inflation. President Obama would double it.President Bush became the first President to spend 3 percent of GDP on federal antipoverty programs. President Obama has already increased this spending by 20 percent.President Bush tilted the income tax burden more toward upper-income taxpayers. President Obama would continue that trend.

President Bush presided over a $2.5 trillion increase in the public debt through 2008. Setting aside 2009 (for which Presidents Bush and Obama share responsibility for an additional $2.6 trillion in public debt), President Obama's budget would add $4.9 trillion in public debt from the beginning of 2010 through 2016.

UPDATE: Many Obama defenders in the comments are claiming that the numbers above do not include spending on Iraq and Afghanistan during the Bush years. They most certainly do. While Bush did fund the wars through emergency supplementals (not the regular budget process), that spending did not simply vanish. It is included in the numbers above. Also, some Obama defenders are claiming the graphic above represents biased Heritage Foundation numbers. While we stand behind the numbers we put out 100%, the numbers, and the graphic itself, above are from the Washington Post. We originally left out the link to WaPo. It has now been added.

CLARIFICATION: Of course, this Washington Post graphic does not perfectly delineate budget surpluses and deficits by administration. President Bush took office in January 2001, and therefore played a lead role in crafting the FY 2002-2008 budgets. Presidents Bush and Obama share responsibility for the FY 2009 budget deficit that overlaps their administrations, before President Obama assumes full budgetary responsibility beginning in FY 2010. Overall, President Obama's budget would add twice as much debt as President Bush over the same number of years.
