The energy joke.

This is how a good idea goes awry,  under the auspices and control of the federal govt., the self perpetuating monster that it is.  The employees, of course, have no worries as to their performance, as govt. agencies don't have to follow the same rules it places on the private sectors such as Sarbanes/Oxley or have to be productive for their shareholders. I can think of a few others that are huge failed bureaurocracies that just take tax dollars, have agendas, do nothing productive,  or should totally be overhauled and given over to the private sector.
THE ABSOLUTELY FUNNIEST JOKE EVER ON US!

What was the reason given for developing the Department of Energy
during the Carter administration?

We have spent multi billions of dollars in support of this agency
and I am willing to bet not one person who reads this will remember
the reason given. It was very simple.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY WAS INSTITUTED TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

What I got in the mail today, Plus special commentary.

I just saw a talking head on the tube telling us that there is not dime of credit to be gotten out there.

In my mail was a solicitation for $7,000 loan from Citibank because I have such excellent credit.

In my mail was a solicitation from AIG telling me I was overpaying on insurance.(They already started spending the 85 Billion on postage)!

In my mail was a picture of the gekko from Geico telling me I am overpaying on my insurance.

Of course, I ripped them up and threw them in the trash, I've been doing this for a long time.  I learned something a long time ago from my parents who came here with nothing.  I reccommend this to anybody at no charge, you don't need any special counseling or books etc..

This applies to your personal needs:

If you don't need it don't buy it.  And even more importantly if you don't need it and you don't have the money to buy it outright don't even think of buying it.

It looks like avarice is the culprit of these problems in our financial markets but not everyone is guilty,  the majority of American business is sound, the practice of backing securities with mortgage money has to be reigned in.

Newt Gingrich has some great ideas on the solution for this self induced crisis.  Here you go:

Get the Politicians Out of the Economy: Recipe for Sound Economic Growth

By Newt Gingrich on September 21, 2008 1:54 PM 12 Comments

(This is a message from Newt Gingrich to American Solutions members on getting the American economy back on track, and the key is to get the politicians out of the economy and then have a recipe for sound economic growth.)

You know, the last few weeks have been painful economically and even more painful as an historian and citizen.

On Saturday, September 27 we'll spend six hours proposing bold dramatic change at our second annual Solutions Day which will be in the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta, Georgia and will be on the Internet on Dish Satellite Television, on  Direct TV, and all the details are at AmericanSolutions.com.

But, the rate at which politicians, lobbyists and bureaucrats in Washington are doing the wrong things in the wrong way requires speaking out NOW. This is why I wanted to share today with the members and supporters of American Solutions some thoughts on the state of the economy and what we need to do to move America forward.

If you're like me and like most Americans, you've watched your savings shrink, your house value decline, the price you pay for gasoline rise, and the economy within many of us run a company get worse. But your economic problems have been dwarfed by the appalling behavior of Washington politicians.

Not only are they undermining our economic future but if unchecked they will ruin the future for our children and grandchildren.

Washington politicians in both parties are panicked and as a result they are making things worse.

Faced with the economic mess they have made, most Congressional politicians then call for protecting the very jobs they are killing by adopting economically unsustainable but politically attractive demagoguery.

The Federal Reserve has forgotten that its first job is to protect the dollar. In its search for a pain free here and now it has flooded the world with dollars which has set the stage for a return to the 1970s model of stagflation in which the combination of high taxes and high inflation cripple economic growth and weaken our economic future.

The Treasury has forgotten that its first job is to protect the taxpayer and reinforce the Federal Reserve in protecting the dollar. Now we have a Treasury which is capriciously deciding which firm to help and which firm to let die. In the process it is piling up huge liabilities for the taxpayer, potentially increasing the long term debt of the American taxpayer by what may amount to a nearly 50% increase.

This process of debt accumulation started with the government intervention in the case of the failing Bear Stearns at a potential cost to taxpayers of $30 billion, followed by a weekend "saving" Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae at an estimated cost of $200 billion.

Then this past week we saw the decision to allow Lehman Brothers to go bankrupt followed by the decision that AIG needed to be rescued, subjecting the taxpayer to a potential risk of an additional $85 billion.

We cannot have capitalism on the way up and socialism on the way down. We cannot have a welfare state for Wall Street.

You know, that was not all.  This interventionism is so capricious, just yesterday we learned that the taxpayer could be responsible for $700 billion in potential bad debt. We don't know what the rules are. We don't know what the structure is. This is all going to be decided in secret by a handful of congressmen and the Secretary of the Treasury with no American knowing what's being decided, and yet it could shape this country for the next 20 years.

In addition, to show you how much the rule of law has decayed, we were told that 799 companies will be protected by stopping the ability to sell short on their stock-that is to gamble that they're going to get weaker. Why 799? Why not 797? Why not 801? Who's on the list to be protected by the government, and who isn't on the list to be protected, and who made that decision?

This is not the rule of law. This is not what we thought America was supposed to be about. This is very dangerous government by politicians, lobbyists, and bureaucrats, who are making decisions in secret without the country knowing what the ground rules are.

As a principled conservative it is even more sobering to see the amount of economic power being centralized in Washington with these interventions. Deals are being struck behind closed doors with little or no transparency. Things are happening at the intersection of politics and finance that we, the American people, know nothing about except the potential price tag we will pay. These many new federal responsibilities will politicize finances at giant institutions and will guarantee massive increases in lobbying.

Lobbyists are a consequence of big government not a cause of it. The more money centered in government the more value there will be in hiring a lobbyist. The more lobbyists are hired the more politics will be dominated by the political contributions of the lobbyists and their employers. The more power the lobbyists and their employers amass over the politicians the more politics will define the economy. It will become more profitable to influence a politician than to invent a product. If the market rejects you or your ideas fail to compete, the help of your lobbyist may be all you need. Your lobbyist may be able to get government to protect you from your own failure.

The failure of politicians to solve the systemic and fundamental economic problems has led them to paper over these failures with your money. Using your money inevitably increases the power and size of Washington bureaucracy. In the long run, centralized bureaucratic planning will inevitably make the United States less competitive, less creative, and less capable.

If we do not stop the current lobbyist driven, politician enhancing, and bureaucracy empowering trend, America will be poorer, weaker, and less capable for a long time to come.

In an amazing display of historic ignorance, economic destructiveness, and ideologically driven dishonesty, Washington politicians are in the process of combining the worst of the 1970s bad economic policies with the worst of Detroit's economic and educational decay.

We are in grave danger of turning all of America into the kind of declining economy and bureaucratic mess which Detroit has become over the last 40 years.

It is essential that we face the facts and return to the fundamentals.

To paraphrase then Governor Ronald Reagan in February 1975 at the first Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) conference (which then Naval Officer John McCain went to as the guest of Governor Reagan), the time has come to outline a policy of bold colors with no pale pastels.

Hackers.

The hacker (typically people that have nothing better to do) is going to wish they were never born after posting private e-mails on the web.  The FBI and AGs of the involved states are going to come down hard on the hacker and the site which posted Sarah Palin's personal e-mails.

Why she really scares them.

I think they've got it right.  Remember traditional values this is key,  most Americans believe in traditional values.
Why she really scares them
By  Dick Morris & Eileen Mc Gann

For two weeks, Democrats and their media allies have leveled scorching fire at Sarah Palin. It's not having much effect, but they keep at it anyway.

The latest Fox News poll shows Palin with a 54-27 favorable/unfavorable ratio, which compares well with Barack Obama's 57-36, John McCain's 60-33 and Joe Biden's 51-29. (Of the four, she's the most popular).

Why do Democrats feel so threatened? They've even stopped attacking McCain and President Bush to launch a vicious and sexist barrage at her that would normally make a feminist angry and a Democrat blush.

Basically, it's this: John McCain only endangers Democratic chances of victory this November, but Sarah Palin is an existential threat to the Democratic Party.

She threatens a core element of the party's base — women.
When an African-American like Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell or Condi Rice rises to prominence as a Republican, he or she endangers the Democratic coalition. So would a Republican labor leader.

And so, above all, does the woman Republican running for vice president.

Democrats can't stomach seeing the feminist movement's impetus for greater female political participation and empowerment "hijacked" by a pro-life woman who espouses traditional values. They must obliterate her, lest her popularity eat away at their party's core.

So the Democrats are hysterical in their attacks on her. South Carolina's Democratic Party chairwoman, Carol Fowler (wife of a national party chairman), said that the only qualification Palin had for vice president was that she hadn't had an abortion. Tabloids are digging up dirt on Palin's children. And liberal bloggers have suggested that Palin would neglect her children if she were elected (while the Democratic candidate has young children at home, too).

That liberals would resort to such blatant sexism shows their desperation.

But the Fox News poll of Sept. 8-9 indicates a deeper reality of Palin's popularity. On the question of which of the four candidates best understands what day-to-day life is like in America, Palin finished first, with 33 percent. (Obama drew 32 percent, McCain 17 percent and Biden 10 percent.)

She's not popular because she's a radical feminist or pro-choice advocate. It's because she understands what it's like to be a woman in 21st century America.

She's never ascended to the elite, so she doesn't need to stoop to conquer as most well-heeled feminist leaders must. She lives far from the plastic pseudoreality where a fossilized ideology substitutes for human compassion and empathy. As such, she rises above the slogans of both the left and the right and proposes to bring to Washington a dose of reality — a taste of real life.

She may become the first woman in national office yet the Democrats, feminists and liberals can't control her, and that burns them up.

Elections come and go, but Palin is a far more fundamental threat to the Democratic Party. And that's why they fear her so.

The Super Collider

Well, they fired it up. They got beam alignment one way, now they need to go the other way,  then they go both ways.  You know what happens when you go both ways at the same time? Physics.

Who said physics was boring.

No really, I got odds the world ain't over 'cause some physicists got a little crazy over there in SwistaFrance.

The Hadron particle will hopefully show it's signature!  The cameras they are are using are unlike anything DreamWorks uses.

Common Sense Obit.

From an e-mail: Maybe this has been posted before...........

Please join me for a moment of silence in remembrance.  For Common
Sense had served us all so well for so many generations.

Obituary: Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common
Sense, who has been with us for many years.  No one knows for sure
how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic
red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as
knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the
worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend
more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not the
children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for
kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash
after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only
worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing
the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student;
but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant.

Common Sense lost when criminals received better treatment than
their victims..  Common Sense took a beating when you can no longer
legally defend yourself from a burglar in your own home because the
burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed
to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot.  She spilled a little in
her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense finally died when a woman sued a store after
she fell over her own child and won.

   Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust;
his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else
is to Blame and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Chris and Keith.

Gone. I guess MSNBC ratings are pretty bad? You'll still be able to see them on their regular shows.  But no more election or debate coverage.

I am not so fond of Yahoo because they are slanted:

If MSNBC wants better ratings immediately, fire them both, and their credibility will jump 30%.

Nuclear Iran.

Here is an article by Judith Klinghoffer.   I think Joe Biden knows that the lovely Iranian president Ahmadinejad is no fool,  if the Iranian govt. were to be as crazy to lob a nuke at Israel, it would be suicide for Iran. I don't think anyone has to worry about that ever happenning.  But they wouldn't hesitate to provide one to terrorists, if they did and it was sparked up, they would be caught and would suufer the same consequences, nuclear material is traceable like fingerprints.

As a side note Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice is meeting with Libya today the first time high level communication in 50 years with Libya, I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that one. Condi and Qaddafi having lunch,  I guess Muammar wants to make nice, this has historical significance.

BIDEN TRUMPS AHMADINEJAD By Judith A. Klinghoffer( bio)

Ahmadinejad has been telling anyone who would listen that Iran is going to go nuclear and there is nothing the US can do about it. Biden went further. He told Israeli officials that there is nothing Israel can do about it. Leftist Israel daily Haaretz reported:

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed "opening a additional military and diplomatic front." . . . Army Radio said Israeli officials expressed "amazement" over the remarks attributed to him. " Israel will have to reconcile itself with the nuclearization of Iran," Army Radio quoted Biden as telling the unnamed officials. " It's doubtful if the economic sanctions will be effective, and I am against opening an additional military and diplomatic front." Biden denies the story but it reads like vintage Biden to me. As a senator he was merely doing what comes naturally, bloviating. As the man who is supposed to teach Obama about foreign policy, these views are scary. Barry Rubin explains:

The real problem is if a nuclear Iran would reconcile itself to Israel's existence. And also let me urge the following talking points on you when you write/talk about a nuclear Iran. Even if people don't care whether Israel is wiped off the map they should consider these points: 1. A nuclear Iran will make it impossible for the West to protect its interests in the Middle East. All countries would be too intimidated to act in any way contrary to Iran's desires. 2. A nuclear Iran would intimidate all Arab regimes to appease Iran including, for example, rejecting Western basing rights or alliances. 3. A nuclear Iran would lead to a huge upsurge in radical Islamist movements and their recruiting. With hundreds of thousands of Muslims joining such groups, the existence of every Arab regime would be jeopardized; terrorism and regional instability would rise. 4. The price of oil, given understandable fears of regional stability, would go far higher than it is now and stay there for years. Senator Biden–are you reconciled to all that happening? I will take the liberty of answering for him: No, publicly. Yes, privately.

Everybody from Ahmadinejad to Putin to Western appeasers and declinists understand as much. That is the reason they are so enthusiastic about an Obama/Biden ticket.
