This was written in 1994 obviously the cost have risen since then.

excerpt;
Since the mothers' own resources are slim to none -- 65% of households headed by women have incomes of less than $20,000 -- the government has to step in. Shawn's delivery entitles his mother to more than $600 a month in food stamps, Medicaid, and Aid to Families with Dependent Children. That places Shawn and his mom at the center of what is shaping up as one of the most important debates of the year: how to make such families self- supporting and reduce swelling welfare outlays, expected to reach $60 billion this year.

Comments:
With that second article I applaud president Obama for pushing free contraceptives.
Gonna cost the taxpayers less money for fewer children.
There appears to be more behind this contraception issue than they are publicly stating.
President Obama is a smart man and he knows full well what he is doing.
Yet this is being done to our military.

He's cutting our military to ribbons while building a $750,000 soccer field in Gitmo for his musloid brothers.
you should always pi** off your military, wonder if Hugo taught him that.
We need weekly drug and alcohol testing on food stamp recipients.
Got money for booze and drugs? Buy your own food, too.
First, to let you know, I am a child of a welfare mother.

From that perspective, I can tell you it's nothing more than a Communist Training Program.
Yep Jade, sad but true, I seen in it in my own family, I refused to be controlled that way.
I don't know how welfare works in your state but here in Baltimore MD we have welfare reform you just don't walk into the welfare office and get welfare. You have to be willing to take classes to get a ged if you don't have one, and classes for job training... don't comply and your dropped from the program.
I am not against social programs when someone is in need of assistance. What I am against is the blatant abuse of the system.
Here in SC I understand the rules for assistance is only temporary until you are able to find work.
JAP, it's because it preys on the Mooch in us all.

When anyone is handing out free stuff to anyone with a sad story to tell, you're going to have people lining up by the millions; possibly billions.

Many of us are a bunch of lazy fucers and when given the chance, will take advantage any way we can.

I've heard it, I've seen it, I Know It.
