Something Different: Pick 4

It's been a while since I had to post something on my blog. So today, since I have some time off, I thought I would share some insight that I have been studying. This post is a little off topic, but still applies to the Pick 4 games.

What we are going to focus on is doubles within the pick 4 draws. But there is a couple of different things that I see that work when addressing the doubles. Let's take a look at some draws so I can show you the easiest
method to watch for. These drawings are from Indiana

If you notice, within these 10 days worth of draws, there are 6 different numbers that I have highlighted.

The first approach is to track the draws that has a "split double" within the number. So you are looking for something like XDXD or DXDX (D = Double Number). Let's go back to September 11th in the evening.

Indiana's evening draw was 5121. So there's our split double of 1's. Now notice their placement. We know that the doubles are going to be split, so we will either have "Front" or "Back" split doubles. Front split doubles will be in placements 1 and 3, and back split doubles will be in placements 2 and 4. Here's a chart to see it better

1   2    3   4
--------------
5 - 1 - 2 - 1

Notice your placements are in 2 and 4, so they are "Back" split doubles. You will want to track this along with the double number itself. So we have "B" (for back) and 1. Let's keep moving up our list to the next split double.

Next we have 8187. Again, another split double. This time the split is in placement 1 and 3 so it's "F" (Front) split
doubles. We want to track that as well. So let's add that to our list too.

F - 8
B - 1

Next we have 7292. Again, another split double and this time it's in placement 3 and 4, so it's "B". We add that
to our list to track, so now our list looks like this

B - 2
F - 8
B - 1

What this list is beginning to show us, is where we can expect a split double to show, and in what placements. By tracking these on a piece of paper or in an excel spreadsheet, it will help you to see what's coming with ease.

So we know there's a split 2, split 8 and split 1 that are coming and in what placement we are looking for. The  next example is going to lead us into how the tracking will help you be able to land a pick 4 number straight.

Our next number on the list moving upwards is 2822. Remember, we are focused on the "split" doubles. That's where our interest is, not the double next to each other. So in 2822, we have "F" of 2. So now we add that to our list as well for tracking. Our list is now like this:

F - 2
B - 2
F - 8
B - 1

Then our next number up the list is a hit for our tracking. That number is 2629. There's our "F - 2" hit, because the split double of 2 is in placements 1 and 3 so it's "F". So now we can remove the F - 2 from our list, but we actually put it right back on the list because 2629 is also a F - 2. So now our list looks like this

F - 2
F - 2
B - 2
F - 8
B - 1

And sure enough, our very next draw was 2526, and there it is again! Our F - 2! So again we remove it and add it right back to our list. So our list now looks like this:

F - 2
F - 2
F - 2

B - 2
F - 8
B - 1

Pretty neat right?! Now, let's take this a step further for things to watch for. We are still focused on the hightlighted numbers in the chart. Let's go back to 9/11 again and use the 5121 number. We know that the number has B -1, but what about the "5" and "2" in 5121? Well, those are indicators as well! Those can help you land pick 4 wins.

Let's take a look at how that can happen. If we use the 5-1-2-1 number and we are focused on the "5" and "2", then we are going to want to make doubles out of that too, using just those numbers. Let me show you what I mean with that using the 5-2:

525
252

If we now consider those two double possibilities, we can look for potential numbers that contain those doubles. And if we look at our list, we can see on 9/13, in the evening, Indiana drew the number 2-2-7-5. There's our 252! But that's not it! On the 19th in the evening the number was 2-5-2-6! Remember the "F - 2" from earlier? :)

Now you may be asking, how do we know what the double is going to pair up with? Great question! I want to  show you how you can watch for that coming too! That brings me into the next part of this post. This part is about looking for numbers that aren't split doubles, but still contain doubles or mirrored doubles themselves.

Let me show you an example of what I mean. On the 16th, the evening draw was 5-9-8-8. So there's a double. Now what we are going to want to do is watch for the double with either a "5" or a "9" in another draw. The 4th number will be something completely different. So in the case of 5-9-8-8, we have 588 or 988 to watch for.

Just 3 draws later on the 18th, Indiana's day draw was 5881! There's our "588" that we were looking for. Now the next one is a little more trickier, if you don't understand the mirror numbers. But I will show this example base on presuming that you do. Let's take the number from the 21st which was 1-2-6-0.

Using 1260, if we were to mirror it we would have : 1210, or 6260 or something like that. Or it's going to use the "0" when doubling up, so something like 160, 110, 660. But we also don't want to forget to flip it so that the "odd" number out, becomes the double number. So in the case of something like 626, it would become 622, or in the 660, it would become 600. But if we were to do that, and consider the mirrors, when we have 126 we would have:

126, 121, 626, 176, 676, 171
and then we flip the double
221, 226, 771, 776

And if we look, just 3 draws later we had 8677! Our double from 1260 told us it was coming! Pretty neat huh?

Now, I want to show you one last thing to help you track which doubles are coming with a 3rd number!

Remember that list we were compiling that had the "F" and "B" and then the numbers? Well, let take a look at
just the numbers themselves.

We had in our list from the bottom to the top:

1, 8, 2, 2, 2

You are going to start with the "1" and "8" in the list and merge them as a double. So 118, or 188. After the 8187
which was drawn on the 15th, we are looking for 118 or 188. On the 18th, 5188!. So there's our "1" and "8". Now
what we do is drop the "1" and use the first two numbers in the list again! This time we have "8" and "2". The "2"
was added from the 2822 on the 17th. So after the 2822 we are looking for 822 or 882. This time it was on Oct 1st
that 8928 was drawn. So there's our 882 or 8x28! :D

So you would now drop the 8 from the list and have "2" and "2". The second 2 was produced from 2629. So we are looking for a 222, and this is where you have to consider the mirror number. So it would be 227 or 277. Sure enough, on the 27th, we saw 2776.

There's quite a bit in this article for you to use to track down and hit the pick 4 numbers straight! One thing to consider is when you are tracking the flipped doubles, consider playing the extra digit in the front or in the back.
For example, let's say from the number 1-9-0-9. You are now tracking the "1" and "0". So you are going to do
"101" and "010". When you do your extra number (which I recommend all) you are going to do it as X101 or 101X
and X010 or 010X.

But take these techniques, go look at your state, and see if they work in your state! I am 100% sure they do, otherwise I wouldn't have written this article to help you win!

Til then...
