I love the cheep ones.
Here are the rates of recurrence for Powerball and Mega Millions.
It tells on average how many draws it takes for a ball # to recur or happen again by column.
To relate this to the more common ‘skip’, just subtract 1 from all these values.
We can see that Powerball Ball #1 in the first column should recur on average about once every 13.80 draws.
When Powerball Ball #1 dose hit, it's likely to hit in rapid succession or very frequently to keep up the average.

Anomalous Powerball Reading: Column of Truth.
There appears to be a Powerball Anomaly going on since the introduction of the new 5/69 and 1/26 matrix.
We did a compare to the current Mega Millions matrix of 5/75 and 1/15 for the same number of draws as the Powerball; currently 91 draws as of 2016-08-19 12:00 CT.
The anomaly is happening in the Pick 5 portion, Columns A, B, C, D, and E are the Pick 5, and PB the Pick 1 portion.
Column A has something going on with Ball #1 that seems to defy the Calculated Average and is very different from the Mega Millions which has a larger Pick 5 pool size to select from.

Yes, we know there are more Mega Millions draws, but we are comparing like number of draws for like number of draws.
We can see Ball #1 has not been picked since the matrix change for Powerball; yet, Mega Millions for the same number of draws had its Ball #1 drawn 6 times within 91 draws of its matrix change.
Is this normal?
Well, maybe.
But, what’s normal?
Put another way, what hit count could we expect on average for each of these matrices; for the 91 draws since their change.
For this we refer you to that Combinatorial Distribution we posted earlier.
We can use it to calculate an average hit count for any number of draws.
For simplicity, we are just going to show the equation and the tables.
The equation for finding the Average Hit Frequency is the following:
For c in the equation: Column A is 1, Column B is 2, Column C is 3... Column PB is 1.
Using this we can calculate what we could expect on average for the 91 draws of each lottery’s matrix.

We can compare this with their actual hit counts and graph them.
The charts shown next display the selection counts and what on average we would expect for a random selection of these matrices.
As we can see clearly now, there is an anomaly with the Powerball, Ball #1; maybe Ball #8, too, in Column A.
We're seeing an interesting anomaly in the individual Powerball columns as compared to the Mega Millions for the same number of draws in the current combinatoric permutation matrix.
As of 2016-08-19 11:54 CT, there are 91 draws for the current matrix in Powerball and 295 draws from Mega Millions.
We did a compare of the Powerball and the Mega Millions at the same 91 draws and found an interesting difference in the individual columns of the selections.
We'll post a more later, but you can check it out yourself.
Keep in mind, Powerball has a 5/69 + 1/26 and Mega Millions 5/75 + 1/15.
Mega Millions has a larger pool of Pick 5 numbers to select from than Powerball, yet Powerball is doing something worth noting.
For the same number of draws we would expect to see fairly similar results.
