There are 100 members in the Senate. You need 60 votes to pass a bill or in this case a CR to reopen the gov't. A CR is a continuing resolution. A CR doesn't change anything, all it does is it keeps everything the way it is until the spending bill expires Jan 31,2026 when the negotiations start for a new budget for the new year.
Currently there are 53 republicans, 45 democrats, 2 independents. If all 53 republicans vote YES to open the gov't and all 45 dems and both inds vote NO against opening the gov't, that means they are 7 votes short of the 60 needed to reopen the gov't. In order to reach 60 votes some dems and or inds have to vote YES to open the gov't. Now unless a total of 7 of the dems and or inds vote YES, they will not reach 60 votes. Do you finally understand that? So how is it the republicans fault the gov't is closed when NO dems or inds are voting yes?

So Schumer said if you don't give us what we want we'll shut down the govt. Trump called their bluff and said do it. So they did. Then dems said give us what we want and we'll end the shut down. Trump said. Nope. You gotta end the shutdown first then we'll talk. Schumer said no.
They had 14 votes to open the govt, dems kept voting no. It stayed shut down, people realized it was the dems fault and got mad at the dems. and dems gave in and opened the govt. Now dems in congress want Schumer out. YES!! Trump wins again!!.
