Unless McCarthy can negotiate a deal with the "20", someone else might be the Speaker and Steve Scalise's name is being mentioned.

Looks like someone is trying very hard to have their comments called "pitifully stupid". The Republicans voted to make McCarthy their party leader just like the Democrats made Jefferies their leader.  It should be obvious when all 212 Democrats voted for Jefferies, they are united. What makes saying "they vote as they were told" really pitifully stupid is it takes 218 votes to elect a speaker and if the Dems had that many votes, Jefferies would be Speaker.

Fun fact: To become Speaker of the House, the winner needs a majority of the votes casted. There are 435 House seats but not all of them vote like in 2021 when 427 voted and Pelosi won with 216 votes.
