The Mineral Wells City Council is reconsidering an ordinance that bans flags from being displayed at the graves of veterans at any time other than two weeks around Memorial Day and Veterans Day,” CBS DFW report.

“The ordinance, which was passed last week, includes a host of regulations concerning what can be placed around city graves. Teddy bears and statues must be removed 21 days after the funeral. Mourners cannot place flowers near a gravesite unless they’re in a vase,” the report adds.

1.What made council members think this was a good idea?
2.How did they intend to enforce it

it must be a free cemetary,as here we buy the plot and can put what you want on it.however i'll be buried in our states veterans cemetary,so don't know there rules yet.

Emily, I'm sure that the reasons are valid and have nothing to do with patriotism.

People were probably leaving the place in disarray (a lot of people at one time stomping all over the place) or never coming back to remove the flags and they become faded from the weather. Or flags and poles coming loose and blowing all over the grounds and the wind taking them into people yards.

I wouldn't doubt it if there was a history of vandalism. They probably just don't want to have to pay someone to clean it up after the holiday.

Have you ever seen one of those graveyards. They are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of little white markers in straight rows. I pass by one often when I take the train. I'd hope they will fly one big huge flag for them.
