How Big Government Makes Life Worse

http://reason.com/archives/2012/05/04/how-big-government-makes-life-worse

Comments:
Yep,
Cut back on big gov't.
But what will happen to Julia and John?
Yeah,
CONservative icon Ayn Rand whom Paul Ryan is an ardent admirer of who authored Atlas Shrugged and others railed against big government her whole life but when she turned 65 she had no problem taking her big government provided Social Security Check and her socialized medicine MEDICARE
Yep, and those things are what she paid into to collect upon when she was eligible. Those two programs were not meant to be subsidized programs to begin with. The gov't was just stupid on doing their math so they would not be subsidized programs.
Ayn Rand was wealthy. She didn't need the Government handouts.
Like ALL other CONservatives and Most RepubliCons she WAS a Hypocrite and They Are!
How was she a hypocrite?
It doesn't matter how wealthy she was, it was her money that she paid in and she wanted it back.
Whatsamatter, you don't like how socialism works?
@JAP
Julia would have to struggle to come up with the $9 a month somehow, some way, so she could pay for her own birth control. Oh, the humanity!
One should not rant against Big Government and then take from that same government!
CONservatives and RepubliCONS have no problem with Big Government as long as it is THEIR BIG GOVERNMENT!
CONservitves,Republican'ts Thy Name IS Hypocrisy!
Facts are facts, local, state, and federal govts. when added up, no matter how the math is done, is a cluster. A blob that produces nothing, only roadblocks to productive people and a big teet to lazy unproductive people.

Ayn Rand is absolutely NOT a hypocrite.

She'd have preferred that these programs did not exist.

But she already paid into them, she simply took back some of what she never should have had to pay.

All of the people who criticize her should first READ her literature. She rails against these programs, but as a rational person, she wasn't going to give up something she could gain.

Even if Paul Ryan read and was influenced by Ayn Rand, he absolutely is not advocating her preferred policies. He doesn't go near far enough, he simply laid out a plan that he thought was reasonable enough to pass. It didn't even balance the budget for decades.

Liberals who said that went way too far, please, explain to me how we will balance the budget if you think a plan that does it over DECADES goes too far?
rdgrnr, just out of curiosity (since you advocate against certain libertarian principles) do you read Reason often?

I LOVE Reason.
Bob has a problem with people getting back what theirs, Bob do you collect social security ? Did you pay into for years and expect it would be there for you ?
Bob don't shizer your leiderhousen, but that may not be there for you children or grandchildren, due to the massive mis-management.
Boney,
Which libertarian principles do I advocate against?
And no, though I'm a voracious reader, I'm not familiar with Reason but I think I've seen it. I'll check it out next time I see it.

And I like Ayn Rand.
I have one of her quotes on the wall here: "The question isn't who is going to let me, it's who is going to stop me."

Sully,
Don'tcha love libs? They force you to pay into something all your life with the promise you'll get it back and then they b*tch when you take it. They expect you to donate it or something. They're all losers like boobya.

And you're right, his grandkids won't get jacksquat after the Social Security Ponzi Scheme collapses.
But it's the thought that counts.

I know I'm gonna take every nickel I can outta SS though when I get the chance! Yeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaa!
Non interventionism foreign policy (I guess that's not fundamentally libertarian, though).

I'd also guess removal of drug laws. Actually now that I think about it I can't recall if I have seen you advocate against Libertarian principles, but I have seen you call Ron Paul a p*ssy and say screw him.
