I would like to refutiate one of your two points about Paul. (I'd question his specific stance on Iran not being very dangerous, because their are irrational people running that country, but not his stance that he would act only by Declaration of War by Congress or immediate threat to the US.)

On the other point, Paul is completely Pro-Life. Completely. He always talks about protecting the rights of the unborn to live.

As for Conservatives being more well informed, I'd absolutely believe it, because there are huge volumes of uninformed young liberals, who learn and tend to become more conservative, and because I've had logical fallacies and garbage yelled at me far more often from extreme leftists than extreme conservatives.

I've also noticed conservatives tend to understand the need to be responsible for your actions. And to take human action, rather than use force. But that only goes so far, as there is ignorance on both sides.

I also notice that Progressives have a tendency to make outrageous claims about economics without ever having spent time studying the subject. They go off on how wrong things are, without any knowledge on the specific subject. Again, this goes for a lot of people, but progressives, because of their directive to plan the economy, are specifically dangerous.

Take the example of price gauging. The reality is, that anti-price gauging legislation creates shortages, and prevents people in need from getting the things they need. But progressives feel the practice is wrong, so to prevent people from making an "unfair" profit off of those in need, they ban the practice, and people in disaster zones pay the price, because they don't get what they need.

Not everything's so black and white. And data is better than BS. The data does show that Republicans are more generous, and this study did show that Republicans were more informed on this material. That doesn't make it the end all, be all. But it does say something.

BTW: I'm a Libertarian, and I'm a Republican. My alliance is with the Constitution, and Liberty, which means I'm often at odds with my own party. My point in saying this is that I'm not very biased towards the Republican Party, but I do get more of a sense of civility from the Republican than Democratic Party. The Democratic Party tends to try to instill it's values on others, and liberals get real nasty when you don't agree 100%. On the right, they harshly criticize each other, but they don't call each other things names and lie about people as often as the left does. This happens on both sides, but far, far less on the right, partly because the coalitions on the right agree to disagree, and debate, on most subjects.

(for some reason, we can't seem to do so on foreign policy - but I'll leave that discussion for another day except to say that the Republican Party used to have a solid understanding of the seriousness of foreign policy, and has somewhat devolved into losing the meaning of defense. We've lost that and their seems to be no end in sight to the recklessness of US foreign policy because people on the right don't seem to recognize our errors, only successes.
