Civil rights and morality are two difference issues. The former applies to all Americans. MLK did not discriminate against gays. They played a big part in the civil rights movement.

Civil rights includes all. No one should be bullied, harassed, assaulted and discriminated against because of their sexual orientation. A homophobic person is a dangerous individual.

The only one here at LP that would contest this is Speedo, he quoted "MLK and Gay rights" were synonymous with Civil Rights. Gay rights only followed the footsteps of the civil rights movement 2 years after Selma, but then what do I know , I'm White..

Bingo! You answered your own question bubba. The president was talking about the rights of gays in the here and now. If you weren't so homophobic you would see that. The president's job is to see that no one is discriminated against. Period.
@maddog, since you obviously do not know much about Black History let me help you out. Bayard Rustin worked with Martin Luther King and the top leaders in the civil rights movement...observe how they handled the fact that he was gay. Keep in mind Emily, many of Martin's inner circle were ministers.
