The same stuff goes on in just about any large metropolitan area. The time it takes to see a doctor in an emergency room is given a classification and a number if it's severe enough injury they might fast tract you. If you arrived with a common ailment like a stomach ache you could wait up-wards of 5 hrs or more.

Need an appointment to see a doctor for a bad knee you have to call your HMO if you have one then get a doctor to fax an appointment to the nearest care center your HMO says you can go to then you have to wait possibly 3 weeks to see a doctor for your knee.

The whole medical care system in the usa is a farce, a financial ripoff, and a nightmare for just about anyone. The drug companies are in cahoots with the doctors.

Since when did a Tylenol in the ER cost 25 bucks.
@four4me How many healthcare systems have you encountered? Broad statements like that sound like BO's statement about tonsil loving doctors

What large metropolitan areas? NY, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, Los Angeles?   Democratic bastion urban areas consisting entirely of Dem. cultures of corruption and govt. ineptitude. I work in the DC area in healthcare, there are so many hospitals to choose from, and all are very different.   Some are great, some are not. Running a single hospital is a complex task, HIPAA a few years ago added to that complexity.   But running a few hospitals together such as United Healthcare, MedStar, Univ. MD do everyday, the task is daunting. Hospitals are only one part of the equation, and they should not be your first interaction with healthcare.

Throwing the govt. into the mix, any more than it already is, would be impossible. The govt. is incapable of accomplishing such a task.

The govt. for example cannot migrate the Social Security main database to today's software/hardware platforms.   Much less would they be capable of interconnecting the healthcare systems of the USAmerica. The "will" may be there, but the "capability" is not, "hope and change" doesn't work either.   It would be mired immediately in bureaucratic govt. cR4p!

Let me give an example: We sold a $200,000 system to a private hospital, it was installed up and running in 6 mos.

We sold a similar system into a govt. run facility, 2 years and "not up and running" not even close. Now(these times), when you sell something you've gotta sell it first to a minority govt. approved company and then have them sell it back to the govt. agency that is purchasing.   Then you have to deal with the internal power plays of interdepartmental conflicts between Admin., IT, and the dept. requesting it!

Govt. control is not the answer. The state we are in has taken years to get to but it has been worsing steadily as govt. has/is growning out of control.

Trying to make a level delivery system will bring every service available down big time, it will be equally bad for everybody.

If the congreff passes any healthcare legislation they MUST subscribe to it!
Thanks Four4me and Jarasan both!! I believe doctors are overwhelmed with the bureaucracy as it presently exists, astronomical malpractice costs and fighting with insurance companies about which drugs they'll cover, how much they'll get paid or if they'll get paid.

Adding the government to the equation is far too much intrusion into our lives and an iron clad guarantee to mess things up big time. If congress wanted to do something constructive they could get the tort ambulance chasers and insurance companies under control and we'd all be better off. Oh I forgot much of congress and the pres are attorneys well paid by lobbyist.
jarasan i didn't know hospitals had a political party affiliation in regards to patients needing health care. Regardless of my affiliation i am not an advocate of the new OB health plan I'm not in favor of any health plan anyone has now or in the past i have 4 children several brothers and sisters and a mother and father who have been to just about every large hospital in Baltimore including Johns Hopkins. An unless they had symptoms of a heart or asthma attack or anaphlactic shock they had to wait in line behind everyone else just like everyone else, each ailment is graded put into a category from least severe to most severe. I personally have walked into an emergency room John Hopkins bay view medical center with a bad cut that needed stitches I was 1 of 2 people in the waiting area. I got there at 3 pm several people walked in behind me and were see right away as soon as they gave their info.

I don't know what their condition was.... then all of the sudden like a flood, people started showing up at the ER. It was a little after 1 am when i was seen. It didn't matter how many times i asked the head nursing attendant when i might be seen but she didn't hesitate to tell me about how they graded injuries/symptoms and how hey go about seeing people and taking them back to a cubicle to be seen by a doctor. This was just one such occurrence. A HMO doesn't guarantee you'll be seen first. My brother waited 12 hours to be seen for his back ache Mercy medical center. My children get fast tracked seen almost immediately new policy in area hospitals is to take care of children first.

Mother and fathers health concerns with hospitals lets not go there too many times they waited to be seen he vowed never to go to a ER again my mother felt the same and both said they rather treat themselves unless it was life threatening.

Friends and coworkers have all voiced the same concerns concerning ER visits.

Want to know about the Veterans health care system i could write a book on the trials and tribulations of seeking medical attention here in Baltimore. It dose get attended to eventually. It's been 2 yrs now dicking around with urologists and kidney stone issues i have. Total of 5 yrs all together had em once before but they said they were gone. When i talk to other vets about their problems i feel bad for them the place is a nightmare for many, however there are many who don't seem to care that it takes years to diagnose their problems and more years to get them functioning properly again. Since it's they only health care they have.

This OB plan won't work and has lots of faults but you can bet your bottom dollar the poor will be delighted so will the fence jumpers.
Yes, any urban area that is red on the political map (they all are) has a constituency that puts undue pressure on any healthcare system. It is a direct result of the perpetuation of the welfare state, bad health choices, and an unwillingness to change for the better. This whole plan is another govt. attempt at social engineering, it hasn't worked before and it won't work this time.
Thanks Four4me and Jarasan!! Similar issues down south too, most critical are seen first as it should be.

Seems for forever the government's dumbing down message is to run to the doctor instead of being proactive about our own health such as basic hand washing, food handling, all the stuff our parents and grandparents taught us before medical care became accessible to all. We've been taught to be dependent upon the system instead of using common sense with everyday maladies such as yogurt for diarrhea, lemon juice and honey for a cough, etc.

The government's been softening us up for a long time for the finale they're trying to play now.
Heard Rev. Manning say today on infowars.com if BO gets control of health care, and it's one 6th of our economy, then he will have the power to say who lives and who dies. Aside from that atrosity, I can't help but think it's another way for the gov gangsters to siphon off $ for themselves somehow from this new healthcare system proposed. I'm sure it's not because they want to help ppl.
Thanks TigerAngel!!! Siphon off money, are you kidding me??? Why they'd n-e-v-e-r do that................... Great strategy they've been ratcheting up over the past 35+ years, create economic crisis making us worry about where tomorrow comes from to distract us from pillage, plunder, looting as they tighten laws which prevent us from saying/doing anything about such an assault.

Reverend Manning is definitely not PC but he does speak street language that's easily understood by anyone.
