You seem to be wandering around inside my head the last few days, and it must be a terribly frightening journey. Stay as long as you'd like.

It's strange that this should be coming out now. I pointed out in another post that Israel's Mossad, arguably the finest intelligence agency on the planet, had obtained identical information concerning Iraq's WMD, but verified it through different sources than those used by America. Critics of Operation Iraqi Freedom often ignore the fact that Mr. Bush made all kinds of noise about invading Iraq a full SEVEN MONTHS before US Navy SEALS were inserted in early March, 02 (the first mission in OIF).

Bush and other leaders of the free world gave Saddam ample opportunity to comply with UN inspectors. Instead, he elected to play little games of hide & seek; he would allow inspectors into a certain area but then would detain them from moving to the next site on the list. While they were being detained, Saddam's troops moved weapons (missiles and ordnance) FROM the site which was about to be inspected back TO the site the inspectors had just cleared as being free of chemical weapons. This went on for several months until satellite photos revealed what was actually happening. Saddam was offered several "outs" during this period, but chose instead to poke the Sleeping Giant with a stick.

What most people don't realize is that Saddam truly believed he was fully prepared to meet and defeat the American war machine head-on; it would seem he learned nothing from Operation Desert Storm. That's all well and good, but did Saddam actually possess weapons of mass destruction? Of course he did. Saddam's chemical weapons research facilities, most of which were mobile, were scattered all over the country. We also discovered extensive records which show that Saddam was at least in the process of engineering some of the deadliest biological weapons imaginable (anthrax bombs, strains of previously unheard-of or long-dead viruses, including smallpox, etc.). Dr. Death, the woman who led this initiative for Saddam, disappeared from the media spotlight shortly after she was found.

The best intelligence we had at the time indicated that Saddam had made a deal with either Syria or Iran (most likely Syria, given their terrorist-friendly environment back then) to store his WMD for an undetermined period of time. Satellites can't see at night yet (technically, they can see, but they can't define a dark image from tweny-five or thirty miles away; you get large splotches of varying shades of gray), and it's likely Saddam knew this, so moving those weapons under cover of darkness would have been a simple matter.

I believe time will eventually reveal that they're still there.

Yes Israeli intelligence is the best in the world and shortly after the war began Debka.com published an article based on that information that Saddam's WMD's had been moved to Syria and Lebanon. Have read articles since stating same.

Our troops have found insecticides which are precursors for nerve agents in places where no crops are grown.

However, until all seized documents are translated and until we're able to go physically put our hands on those WMD's buried in Syria the left drumbeat remains "Bush lied" because they like instant answers and further couldn't follow a crumb trail if it were glow in the dark. Marxism is far too important to be deterred by truth. ;)

If invading Iraq means letting WMD's lose from Syria to who knows where - how did that make us safer? When will these tapes be translated and the truth be know? What could be more important?
