Repugnantcans saw to the elimination of the draft for the reasons you have already stated.
They eliminated it first,then the jobs that a poor high school graduate fresh out of high school that could traditionally obtain in manufacturing thereby assuring The Military Industrial Complex of a steady stream of recruits because they could not obtain employment in the private sector.
Bring back the draft and American invasions and occupations of sovereign nations for the benefit of The Military Industrial Complex and Big Oil will suddenly stop because of full support by the Chicken Hawk Republicans and Conservatives serving in Congress.

that's another reason the unemployment is less in red states as they moved all the bases of the military,ft dix,etc. and the support jobs mostly to the southern areas.
