Saint Ronnie of Reagan was a Democrat in the pre communist witch hunting days of Republican Joe McCarthy when he headed the Screen Actors Guild Union in Hollywood.
He found out it could be beneficial to his career if he became a Republican too and falsely accuse some of his fellow actors of having ties to the Communist Party and sympathizing with their views.
Less competition for roles he sought because of his lack of ANY REAL acting talent.

Then he fooled everyone into giving him 2 terms as president with his 1 tax cut to the rich pre 1982 and his 11 tax increases post 1982 while on his way to tripling the National Debt from what it took all presidents before him to accrue combined in 200 years.
