Cut the apples into 17 pieces leaving only 3 in the basket after peeling the remainders and putting the peels in the basket with the other 3. Then core 2 of them and put the cores on top of the peels. The pits then get rearranged around the remaining one apple.
Give each kid an apple and one of them gets the last apple with the basket
